A Bit About Massage
Therapy
Massage
Therapy is a hands-on manipulation of the soft tissue of the body,
specifically the muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments,
and joints. A Massage Therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect
on the body and improves health and well-being by acting on all
the systems in your body-specifically the muscular, nervous, and
circulatory systems. Massage Therapy aids in developing, maintaining
and improving physical function as well as relieving or preventing
physical dysfunction. Massage Therapy is something everyone can
utilize. It can be used in the treatment of many conditions...to
name a few:
- Headaches/migraines
- Back
pain
- Sciatic
pain
- Muscle
spasms
- Work
of sports related injuries
- TMJ

- Whiplash/injury
due to motor vehicle accident
- Chronic

- Pregnancy
- Arthritis

| Joanne
Nasby, RMT. |
| Lifelong
Grimsby resident Joanne Nasby, has been practising as a Registered
Massage Therapist since 1999. Upon graduation from Sir Sandford
Fleming College, she began studying Craniosacral Therapy with
her mentor Ravi-Inder Soligo.Craniosacral therapy is a very
gentle non-invasive healing system. It is based on osteopath
William G. Sutherland’s discovery that the body has
a subtle wave-like fluctuation of fluid that flows through
the brain and spinal cord, which is intimately related to
the functioning of the central nervous system. The craniosacral
system therefore affects all parts of the body and reflects
the health and vitality of a person. Through respectful listening
and by using light, non-controlling touch the therapist “tunes
in” to the craniosacral rhythm to both assess and treat
the imbalances in tissue tone and position that lead to dysfunction.
It is important to note that craniosacral therapy is based
on the principle that healing comes from within and the body
knows how to heal itself. It is the role of the therapist
to manually assist this process by making the client more
aware of their tension and pain and helping them in its release.
The therapist’s hands tell them that a therapeutic release
has occurred because the tissues soften and become more elastic,
fluid circulation improves and the craniosacral rhythm becomes
noticeably stronger and more potent. The client will often
experience symptomatic relief, greater mental clarity and
a deep spiritual calm.
Joanne incorporates craniosacral techniques into her massage
therapy treatments as a method of assessing and addressing
the root cause of a symptom. She applies advanced craniosacral
techniques to treat the internal organs in a non-invasive
manner. Trauma of any type including habitual postural strain,
systemic imbalance, disease, injuries (falls, whiplash, etc.),
psychological/emotional stress, or difficult birth process
can have a long-term impact. Trauma can manifest as impaired
joint, bone movement, muscular or connective tissue restriction,
reduced flow of brain and spinal fluid and a weakened, unbalanced
craniosacral rhythm. Eventually this leads to chronic pain
and dysfunction.
Joanne finds it an honour to nurture and empower her clients
to make positive changes along their healing path. She is
extremely grateful that her own path has led her to Gardiner
Family Chiropractic. Joanne is also a Certified Yoga Teacher
through the Yoga Centre of Burlington and a Certified Health
and Wellness Consultant through Centennial College. When not
working, this earth girl is basking in the beauty of nature
and studying Holistic Nutrition.

of Ontario since 2002. She joined Gardiner Family Chiropractic
Centre team in 2009 and has an intrinsic interest in sport
related injuries. She has considerable experience working

such as, stretching and the importance of self care to maintain
longevity in sport. As an adjunct to sports therapy, Tuch
provides therapeutic treatments for the general population
with a focus on rehabilitation, while promoting overall health
and well-being. Tuch’s post graduate education includes
training in Myofascial Release and other techniques to treat

and strives to deepen her knowledge and understanding of complimentary
treatment approaches to better serve her clientele.
Tuch
briefly left her cozy little town of Grimsby to work in the
GTA and she is very excited to have the opportunity to return
to the area with her husband and daughter. On her time off,
Tuch loves spending time with her family and friends, enjoys
a good game of soccer, a challenging canoe trip and embraces
the true peacefulness that comes with spending the time out
in the wilderness.
